Why NTA 8620?

Annex III of the Seveso III Directive defines the requirements a safety management system must satisfy. After the Seveso Directives were published, further thinking about management systems resulted in the ‘plan-do-check-act’ (PDCA) cycle on which the ISO 14001 and other standards are based. In 2004 the safety management system requirements of the Seveso II directive were found to be incompatible with the management systems that companies had. The result was that several companies had a separate management system for the Seveso II directive, a method that is often impractical and that does not produce optimum results.

To make it possible to integrate the management systems, a committee supervised by the NEN (Netherlands Standardization Institute) and SCCM devised the NTA 8620.
